Out of the Mouth of Babes

There’s a scripture that says:
📖 “Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise.” — Matthew 21:16
And whew… if that ain’t the truth.
I have a 7-year-old, and that boy is wise beyond his years. But he’s also very much a child, exactly where he’s supposed to be. He’s vibrant. Inquisitive. Brilliant. And no, I’m not just saying that because I carried him for 8½ months. Even though… I absolutely did.
Do y’all remember that show Kids Say the Darndest Things?
Yeah. That’s Trè.
He’ll say something so wild, yet so profound. So silly, but somehow perfectly timed. A lot of the time, it’s in moments when I really needed God. It’s actually kind of crazy how God will use our children to speak to us, whether we’re ready or not.

A Rough Day & a Word I Didn’t Ask For (But Needed)
One day I had a BAD day at work. And when I say bad, I mean my students were straight tripping. Not “kids having a moment.” Not “off day energy.”
I was fighting for my life, okay?
After work, I went to pick up Man Man. We did our normal school pick-up dance:
“How was school?”
“What did you learn?”
“What did you eat for lunch?”
He gave me all the details. Some were helpful. Some absolutely unnecessary.
Then he did something unexpected.
He asked me, “Mommy, how was your day?”
Naturally, I’m like, Aww, that’s sweet… but does he even understand the weight this question holds?
I try to be honest and vulnerable with my kids, age-appropriate, of course, so I said:
“Mommy didn’t have a good day.”
And do you know what my sweet, brown-eyed boy said to me?
He said, “Well maybe if you forgive your students, they’ll be nicer to you.”
……
HUH???
Sir???
What in the WORLD???
This baby spoke a WORD and didn’t even know it.
Little did he know, I had been going through it at school. And y’all know me, the sweet, fun-loving, nerdy teacher, similar to Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus, who matches her watch bands to her outfits. I never come in trying to be mean. I come in with love.
But I was tired.
Frustrated.
Overstimulated.
I absolutely was holding on to offense.
My son didn’t know what was happening at work. I didn’t tell him all that.
But God knew exactly what I needed to hear in that moment.
📖 “Unless you change and become like little children…” — Matthew 18:3
Kids don’t hold grudges.
They don’t rehearse hurt.
They forgive and keep it moving.
God used my child to remind me how to act.
God Speaks Through the Ones We Overlook
Sometimes we’re waiting on God to speak through a sermon, a podcast, or a deep Instagram caption…
He’s like, “Ma’am, I already sent the message. It was in the back seat.”
📖 “Through the praise of children…” — Psalm 8:2
God will use whoever He wants.
Even a 7-year-old with snacks in his backpack and no idea he just corrected his mama spiritually.
In Conclusion
Pay attention.
God is always speaking.
Sometimes it’s loud.
Sometimes it’s gentle.
And sometimes… it’s through the mouth of babes.
Don’t miss the message because of the messenger.
Until next time,
—Tiara 🖤✨
