IDENTITY — rooted in Him, not defined by them!

Let’s talk about identity — and no, not the kind you need to open a bank account, or argue with TSA about. I’m talking about the real identity. The one God wrote before the world tried to label us. Definition time because your girl is an educator: Identity: The distinguishing character or personality of an individual. In plain Tiara terms: Who you actually are, not the hats you wear, not the roles you juggle, not the chaos you survived this week. That’s a whole other blog post…surviving chaos!

Here’s a life update- I promise, I’m getting to the point.
In the last year your girl:
Got remarried 💍
Moved to a whole new area (GPS still judging me daily)
Became a mom of two and welcomed a beautiful baby girl 👶🏽✨ And still trying to remember where I put my keys.
I’ve always worn ALL the hats: Mom. Daughter. Worship leader. Educator. Wife. Friend. Some days, I wear them all at once and wonder why my neck hurts. But here’s the thing, those hats describe me, but they don’t define me.The world looks at you and says, “Oh, you’re that girl/guy who [insert responsibility].”
But God looks at you and says, “Baby, that’s not your identity — that’s just your assignment.” So… who are we REALLY?-the point If we’re being honest, half of us don’t know who we are unless someone is needing something from us. We let roles, seasons, mistakes, trauma, people’s opinions, and our own expectations become our “identity. ”But God never asked us to build our identity on something that can change overnight. He anchors us in something unshakeable.
Scripture says…
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here! Translation: You’re not who you used to be, even if the world hasn’t updated your file yet.
1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession… Translation: God said you’re chosen, royal, set apart, and His. Period. Not up for debate.
Ephesians 2:10
For we are God’s masterpiece… Not His leftover project. Not His “I’ll finish it later.” His masterpiece — even on the days you feel like an unfinished Tik Tok draft.
Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
AKA: Your identity is not based on your strength… but His. Identity Check: Who Does God Say You Are?
Here are a few things God actually calls you:
Loved (Jeremiah 31:3)
Forgiven (1 John 1:9)
Chosen (John 15:16)
Called (Romans 8:30)
Secure (Psalm 46:1–3)
A new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17)
More than a conqueror (Romans 8:37)
None of those say: “Exhausted mom,” “Overthinking thirty-something,” “Always the responsible one,” or “Girl who keeps trying to reheat her coffee but never gets to drink it warm.”
Identity Isn’t What You Do — It’s Who You Belong To Here’s the truth that freed me Your identity isn’t found in your titles, your past, your season, or your mistakes. Your identity is found in Christ and that doesn’t shift based on how your week is going. You can lose a job, change a role, transition into a new season, or suddenly find yourself holding a newborn while trying to remember your own name. Yet, God still calls you His. Unchanged. Unmoved. Unshaken. Identity = rooted in Him, not defined by them.
As we grow, shift, evolve, and walk into new seasons, let’s remember this: Your roles describe you. Your identity defines you. And your identity comes from Christ alone. Everything else? Just accessories.. Cute ones. Necessary ones. But not the core of who you are. Walk in who God says you are , not who life tries to tell you to be. Love y’all.
